Armed with the longest nails you have ever seen and a bag of cotton buds, your gallery tour guide mysteriously named as __________ takes you on an efficacious route around an exhibition entitled ‘It’s efficacious if I say it’s efficacious’.
The gallery tour includes five exhibits (the rest are housed…. elsewhere) from the International artist Rebecca Louise Collins. Tour participants are encouraged to open their ears to the images of Collins’s wild karaoke experiments in the city of Madrid and to trust photographic documentation of an oral/aural based project.
Inspired by Andrea Fraser’s Museum Highlights, the piece playfully questions what claims can be made on art and by who. But surely ‘It’s Efficacious If I Say it’s Efficacious?’
Performed at Performance Studies International i#18 as part of the Salon Des Refusés, Leeds University, June 2012
The Salon Des Refusés was a shift curated by Owen Parry and Augusto Corrieri in a disused television studio. Featured as part of the official program it provided an interesting alternative space to re-consider and re-cycle the refused as possible sites of creation and production.
