From our working process, Gas Gallery Oct 2013

The final scene

The final scene

I’ve been meaning to write a few sentences about my collaboration with William Bock a few weekends ago for the 48 Response Time event at the Gas Gallery in Aberystwyth, so here goes. Will and I were drawn to the upstairs part of the gallery, and in particular two small cupboards that were opposite each other. One had some 90′s wall paper in it, the other was very neglected with cobwebs and a slightly unsafe floor. We were quick to reach an idea that could take place in each of these spaces, however, we decided to put that to one side, forget the pressure to show something on the Sunday and focus on our process. Having collaborated together before in London with his company, Strangeworks Collective, we decided to ask ourselves, now several years on, how can our practices and friendship be in dialogue across the space? What emerged from this question were amongst other things the creation of a human glitter ball, bad karaoke to Katy Perry and Jessie J songs and a mode of dialogue that enabled us to incorporate everything we had done over the 48 hours of the Gas Gallery challenge. Will and I hope to continue our dialogue in the coming months and expand the debates and spaces between our practices. In the meantime, check out his website www.williambock.com
