To See and Know More, Pig Bothy National Gallery 31st January 2020

Image courtesy of Bricks from the Kiln, diagram from Richard Hamilton’s typotranslation of Duchamp’s Green Box sits on an RGB word-for-word interpretation of “Gamboge yellow”, a colour swatch named and describe in Werner’s Nomenclature of Colours, first published 1814.

Channelling proto-feminist mystics, writing in-situ, writing colour and theopoetics, this event will create a space for thinking about translation in its widest sense, sending crossing signals between languages, cultures, concepts and registers.

Maria Fusco will discuss her new strand of research into anchorites – proto-feminist mystics – inspired and informed by her time at Sweeney’s Bothy, Isle of Eigg; Joyce Dixon will talk about Abraham Gottlob Werner’s 1814 book Nomenclature of Colours.
